Biotech learns its AI rollout is only as safe as the access decisions nobody was making
A commercial-stage biotechnology company. Outcome verified
The problem
A commercial-stage biotechnology company's identity team was effectively one person, and every access decision defaulted to IT. SOX evidence was assembled from screenshots once a year, and a contractor's access could only be reconstructed from old email. Newly adopted AI assistants were revealing how much data people could reach without anyone knowing why.
Why it mattered
AI tools inherit whatever permissions already exist, so every mistaken grant was about to be amplified at machine speed, and an identity-platform renewal months away risked being decided by default.
What we did
Vizius reframed the program as decentralized authority with centralized enforcement: managers and data owners decide, the platform enforces, and every grant is logged so audit evidence is continuous. Vizius separated the authentication decision from the governance decision and proved the pattern on one finance application first, with a manual fallback protecting its go-live.
What changed
The finance application's access-request, approval and automatic provisioning flows were built, tested end to end and handed over production-ready on the planned date. Leadership received a target architecture, roadmap and structured tool evaluation to inform the renewal.
