Contractor asks where to start with AI and learns its real problem is re-keying data between systems
A regional commercial general contractor.
The problem
A regional commercial general contractor wanted to lean into AI but could not see a sensible first step. Teams across finance, HR, preconstruction and operations were buried in information trapped in email, spreadsheets and PDFs and re-keyed between disconnected systems. The culture was conservative, clients demanded strict confidentiality, and leadership wanted to hold headcount flat while growing, so any plan had to build trust before ambition.
Why it mattered
Duplicate entry and inconsistent handoffs produced rework and late discovery of scope misses that eat margin, and unguided AI use risked exposing client information.
What we did
Through interviews across the major functions and an executive working session, Vizius reframed the problem: the company did not lack tools, it lacked continuity between them. It prioritized bounded, behind-the-scenes automation at the edges of existing systems, such as email-to-system intake for accounts payable, ahead of dashboards that need clean data, and drafted guardrails so the secure path is the easy path.
What changed
Leadership received a scored use-case inventory, a roadmap for the coming year with quick wins, a business case and draft AI guardrails.
