Aerospace startup gets a 12-month IT plan that lets it scale without hiring an IT department

A venture-backed aerospace startup. Outcome verified

The problem

A founder-led aerospace startup had run IT on a get-it-done basis and was suddenly hiring a wave of employees and contractors. Leadership had no plan for which tools to standardize on or how to stay eligible for regulated defense work, and no written rules on how staff and contractors could use company data.

Why it mattered

A poor IT strategy could slow the scale-up or force premature IT hiring, and with regulated technical data in play, invite compliance penalties.

What we did

Rather than recommend a product list, Vizius interviewed stakeholders and wrote a 12-month IT plan built on three tests: efficient (no full-time IT hires), compliance-ready (every tool has a path to the strictest controls) and effective (mainstream tools users will adopt). Each project was framed by what, who, why, when, cost and risk.

What changed

The plan became the company's real project list: the client contracted Vizius for the first-year projects, from device and collaboration management to fractional IT leadership. The first delivered twelve draft IT policies, each one to two pages, readable by new hires and specific enough to cite in contractor agreements.

  • Small company
  • ITAR/EAR

Sound familiar?

  • Everybody just uses whatever tools they want
  • We can't afford an IT department but we're about to need one
  • We don't have any IT policies written down
How we did it

Fractional CISO (vCISO)

"Who owns security here, and what do we tell the board?"

A named security leader who sets priorities, owns policies, vendors and audits, and reports progress on one page leadership can read.
